About Kayla Killman

Kayla Killman

With the cost of a transplant often exceeding $500,000, many transplant patients are unable to shoulder the financial burden of such a procedure.  The Children’s Organ Transplant Association (COTA) is a national charity dedicated to organizing and guiding communities in raising funds for transplant-needy patients.  In Myrtle Beach, volunteers are raising funds for transplant patients like local child Kayla Killman.
Born on March 9, 2000, Kayla was diagnosed with Brachio-Oto-Renal Syndrome, and doctors at the Medical University of South Carolina in Charleston, performed a life-saving kidney transplant January 28, 2008.  An estimated $35,000 is being raised by Myrtle Beach volunteers.

Kayla turns 8 !

When Jennifer was pregnant, she was advised to abort the child she was carrying. This did not happen and on March 9th, 2008 our girl turned 8 yrs old !!

Journal

May 2008

Just want to update Kayla's condition. Recently she has been told to stay in as her immune system is not fighting as hard as it should. Meanwhile, she is still home schooling , even on Saturdays. This little one is pretty much homebound for now. Let's make sure they get the prayers needed as Jen is taking on alot right now.

At this time, going back to school is still a decision being considered by doctors and probably will not be made till closer to Aug school return.

MAKE A WISH has granted Jen and Kayla a wish, but do to Kayla's fragile state, that is still in the works for exact time, as she may or may not be able to fly to Disney World. She may not be able to do this soon too as her conditions keep changing.

Thanks for all your support, no matter what it is, we appreciate it all !!

Update March 27th, 2008

Kayla is now being home schooled for the remaining of this school year. She has 7 hour school days, and is trying to be a normal 8 yr old little girl in the other hours. She is a wonderful artist, as some of her drawings are exhibited in Frisco , Texas at the FLOWER POWER FESTIVAL going on thru May 15th. How cool is that? She also is a very good reader and loves to play with her Nintendo.

So far, she is just having minor medical situations to deal with. Kayla and Jennifer travel to MUSC in Charleston at least 2 times a week to have follow up appointments.

Please keep watching this site, as we will keep everyone informed as time goes by and our fundraisers are completed.

Thanks for visiting ! Please come back :)
